When you first present for consultation it is helpful to have a current referral from your general practitioner or other specialist. During the consultation a thorough history and examination will take place and all relevant imaging will be reviewed. Please bring all of your imaging and reports with you. If you have a valid referral you will obtain a Medicare rebate at the time of the payment. Once relevant imaging and investigations have been made, treatment options are discussed. We always provide both operative and non-operative options for your particular condition.

How do I make an Appointment ?
Once you have a referring letter from your doctor, you can make a direct appointment with a specific Sydney Shoulder and Elbow surgeon – the numbers are listed individually on each doctor’s profile page.
When should I arrive for my Appointment ?
Please arrive 5-10 minutes early for your appointment for registration and to fill in a health questionnaire.
How can I cancel my Appointment ?
To cancel an appointment call X during business hours. Please cancel at least 1 day prior so that your appointment time can be allocated to another patient who is seeking treatment.
What do I need to bring to my Appointment ?
Don’t forget to bring the following items to your appointment:
- Your letter of referral from your GP or referring doctor
- Medicare or Veterans Affairs card
- Insurance information
- Copies of operation records, medical records, x-rays, MRIs, CT scans and so on from prior doctor visits.
- Copies of relevant medical information including your medication details, x-rays or other diagnostic scans, and any information from your physiotherapist (if applicable)
How much will my surgery cost ?
The standard fee charged at Sydney Shoulder & Elbow is the Australian Medical Association recommended fee. This means that in most instances there will be a part of your consultation and surgical fee that will not be covered by Medicare or your health fund. Please ensure to ask about your gap. Our staff are fully informed with charges and rebates and will be able to help you navigate your way through this area of your procedure.
What are your acceptable means of payment ?
Fees will be reviewed with you at the consultation visit. Payment during the consultation is appreciated.
Bank cheques, personal cheques, cash or credit cards (MasterCard, VISA) are acceptable means of payment.
Do I need to have private health insurance ?
